At VIBRAC, we are passionate about promoting, developing, and spreading VAT through research dissemination, active participation in conferences, symposia, and workshops, and engaging with our contacts around the globe.

Training is another branch we are proud to offer, spreading our state-of-the-art knowledge, practical skills, and therapeutic background with participants from healthcare professions (e.g. nurses, medical doctors, physiotherapists, psychotherapists), those wishing to offer relaxation services (e.g. to complement massage therapy, acupuncture, reflexology), or simply those wishing to learn how to relax at home and use the technology and research-based approach to improve their own wellbeing.

As a treatment approach, VAT is as creative and multidisciplinary as the practitioner. This means that VIBRAC can offer a strong foundation upon which various healthcare providers or practitioners of diverse backgrounds can build safe practice techniques and approaches. Level I is a prerequisite and foundation course for continuing to Level II training, which certifies successful participants as VIBRAC-practitioners.

VIBRAC’s two main trainers are seasoned teachers in this method, having already begun sharing their skills and expertise in VAT trainings as early as 2005. Under VIBRAC the training has been offered since 2012. It is the only body worldwide offering certified evidence-based further education courses in VAT.

Our trainers are highly experienced clinicians and music psychotherapists with years of teaching experience at university level, with extensive know-how in clinical assessment, specialisations in trauma psychotherapy and assessment, and work experience in education, medical, private practice, and academic settings. Since 2016 we have offered international training events and are proud to have taught participants from more than 20 countries about VAT and the benefits of using this treatment modality.

VIBRAC offers training in VAT both nationally in Finland as well as internationally. We have outlined a training model, which consists of III levels:

Level I: Introduction

The first level is an introduction to VAT. The course lasts two days, with 14 hours of contact sessions, and 14 hours of independent work. The mode of teaching is lectures, demonstrations, and discussions. It gives the participant basic knowledge on vibroacoustic therapy.

Level II: VIBRAC-Practitioner

The second level includes VIBRAC-practitioner modules 1 to 3 and qualifies the participant as a VIBRAC-Practitioner.

Module 1 lasts 4 days, with 28 contact hours. This takes the format of lectures, demonstrations, exercises and discussions. The intern also receives a reading package.

Module 2 includes independent studies and exercises with a peer partner. It lasts 3 months, 56 hours. One must also complete 10 VAT sessions with a client and learning modes include study diary and a reflective report.

Module 3 lasts 4 days, with 28 contact hours and independent studies of 56 hours. Lectures, demonstrations, exercises, discussions again constitute the learning modes, this time with additional case consultation. The intern is also under supervision, and reports the case. At the end of this module, the participant is a certified VIBRAC practitioner.

There is a bridge between levels 2 and 3, during which time, the intern will conduct their own independent clinical practice, with a minimum of 4 cases, each lasting 10 sessions each. This is a requirement for continuation to level 3.

Level III: Advanced VIBRAC-practitioner

The third level is Advanced VIBRAC-practitioner level; a VIBRAC-practitioner is eligible to apply for this level after having completed Level II and after having obtained the required clinical practice and training experience.

This level lasts 4 days, with 28 contact hours and 56 hours of independent studies. Again, the format is lectures, demonstrations, exercises, discussions, and case consultation, with a reading package and assignments to be completed before becoming certified.

The possibility to take part in specialized training also exists under two strands. Depending on the advanced practitioner’s orientation and qualifications, one can partake in (1) Psychotherapy-oriented VAT training or become a (2) VAT Trainer and Supervisor.

Level I alone is 1 ECTS, and Level II equates to 14 ECTS amounting to 15 ECTS together. All three levels amount to 20 ECTS. 

Who can attend?

Participants can come from a variety of fields and professions such as music therapy, psychotherapy, psychology, social work, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, nursing and other medical professions, and counselling among many others.

Qualification

Through participating in training sessions, are able to use VAT in a more justifiable, professional, and systematic manner. They can also start to implement the collection of case results from their daily clinical work. This would gradually lead to good quality case studies that would increase the data- and knowledge base of VAT, helping us to recognize the areas that should and could be investigated more thoroughly, such as larger scale studies in the form of randomized clinical trials.

To date we have approximately 100 national and international trained practitioners from various fields and professional backgrounds as well as circa 200 participants who have completed Level I training.
